Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York, Inc.

History and Mission

The Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York (HALA-NY) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit professional organization founded to promote and encourage participation by Haitian Americans and other ethnic minorities in the judicial and legal system. Comprised mostly of attorneys, judges, scholars and activists, we invite all who care about, are affected by, or are interested in issues that pertain to Haitian-Americans and the Haitian diaspora to collaborate with us.  We celebrate and share both our culture and professional expertise to address the needs and interests of our community.

Although we are not a direct services organization, since our inception in 2013, HALA-NY has stepped in to provide valuable legal services for the Haitian community.  Some of our noted achievements include assisting TPS recipients with their renewal applications, and hosting several legal clinics in underserved neighborhoods.  HALA-NY also strives to influence the legal and judicial system to meaningfully impact the lives of our fellow brothers and sisters in the US and abroad. For example, HALA-NY filed an amicus brief denouncing the denationalization of Haitian-Dominicans and is, currently, engaging in strategic collaborations on the issues of TPS and cholera.  Ansamntogether, we can promote the advancement of Haitian-Americans in the legal profession and judiciary as well as positively impact the interests of our immigrant and diaspora communities.

Please join us in these efforts.
