Statement by Haitian American Lawyers Association President Sherbune Paul on the Assassination of President Jovenel Moïse

This morning we learned that President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated at his private residence in Pèlerin, Port-au-Prince, yesterday evening. His beloved wife, First Lady Martine Moïse was also critically injured during the horrific attack and hospitalized. As of now, the perpetrators of this terrible act are unknown. In the wake of this tragedy, I pray for the Moïse Family and I ask that you take a moment of silence in their honor today.

As Haiti continues to grapple with political instability and violence, I am committed, now more than ever, to work towards a better tomorrow for Haitians living in Haiti, America and abroad. Always remember, l’union fait la force, unity is what makes us strong. We are a resilient people and we will persevere. My sincere hope is for Haiti to rebuild and form a strong government that is able to provide peace, stability and prosperity to Haitian people. Until then, we will continue to amplify Haitian voices in the legal field and advocate for a better tomorrow for Haitians everywhere.
