The fact is Breast Cancer is more deadly for Black women....

  • Although Black women and White women get breast cancer at similar rates, Black women are more likely to die from the disease.
  • Black women are more likely to be diagnosed when their cancer has advanced to a later stage.
  • A recent study found that BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations – hereditary cancer mutations that significantly elevate the risk of developing breast cancer, along with several other cancers – were present in 8.1% of Black patients as compared to 3.6% of non-Ashkenazi Jewish White patients.
  • Significant inequities in genetic testing rates persist between Black and White women.
